The end

The shiny shed will be closing next wednesday (temporarily we hope...) in the meantime, make sure you come in and see us, we are going to try and cram in a few last minute events for your enchantment.
we will be putting on a show this monday, where you can come and meet all the artists involved in the project and enjoy some more art and music and magic and beer.

If anyone would like to take part in a game show this week entitled 'art or not art', please get in touch.

On a backwards note, Shakey put on a fantastic Oxjam event last Saturday. I will post some pictures now; we raised £40, and had a lot of fun- some amazing acts, look out for 'meow' and 'the secret project' x

cherry tree/medieval battle

As I am sure some of you are aware, Cherry-Ann has been visiting us every day since the beginning, and leaving a beautiful hand-made decoration for the tree. This week, it got to the point that we decided the tree was adorned to capacity, and so have given it a new branch. I have posted a photo of her creation, as well as a few medieval battle scene shots (picture this set to a robocop soundtrack as the sun sets, whilst you're trying your hardest to get some work done..)

life drawing and time travel

time travel thursday is at last upon us! remember to bring crystals or batteries, as well as a permission slip from spouse/other. It all kicks off at 4.30pm; i highly recommend this event.
we also have life drawing at 2.30, everyone is welcome x

Sad day

We are losing an artist tomorrow, as Gabby- creator of our magnificent waterfall is going back to New York for a month.. very sad day.
To express our appreciation of her, we are throwing an english-american fusion mannequin bon voyage tea party in the window of the shiny shed, from 1pm tomorrow. You are all welcome, please try to bring something which says both we appreciate your culture, but at the same time, england is beautiful and delicious and do hurry back. I personally, have gone for scones with tiny american flags in the top. Also, you should wear something dazzling as we will be on show, but do be prepared to be upstaged...

rockin' jerry!

the delights of tasty tuesdays

Hi guys,

So, I know I said I would update this more often, but we don't have the internet in the shed and it's just too fun to drag myself away..
If you haven't been round yet then you absolutely should- and next week is going to be the best so far! On monday there is a mannequin tea party in the window, tuesday is tasty tuesday- as always, and thursday plays host to life drawing as well as the hotly tipped 'time travel thursday' at 4pm. Let me know if you would like any more info on events.

I will put some pictures on here in an attempt to make up for my recent lack of online presence x

Waterfall sculpture in progress

We are open!

I apologise for my lack of communication skills so far; as of today I will be keeping you up to date with all of our goings on. Incase you don't know who we are, the shiny shed is a new art centre in Chelmsford town centre, and we are operating as a swap shop. The artists resident upstairs pay for their space by generating work for the shop downstairs, creating an environment which is more welcoming and interactive for the public than walking straight into somebody's studio space. We are also a venue for music, performance and anything else you feel we can be of service with. Our aim is to provide everyone with a free creative platform, something which Chelmsford desperately needs at the moment.
Our unit is at 19-20, High Chelmer West, and we will be here for a month or so. After only a few days the place feels like home, the days of working in our bedrooms seem distant and the thought of moving out a travesty; but we shall make the time that we do have magical...

Crazy week trying to turn this huge empty space into a beautiful shop; lots of 3ams and late light chinese food...

Sunday 10 January 2010

The shiny shed is a new artist-led project to start the summer of this year, in an empty shop in Chelmsford's market square. It will be run as a swap shop, and shall be the town's first art centre, and perhaps indeed also the first swap shop- I am not certain of this. If you are interested in working in the shop, visiting, making or donating something, then please do get in touch.
